Puducherry is fast emerging as most preferred destination for tourists and offers complete safety and security to those arriving here, according to tourism minister P Rajavelu.
Spiritual tourism was so vibrant around Auroville, Navagraha temples around the famous shrine of Lord Saneeswarar in Tirunallar in Karaikal region that Puducherry could be a connecting hub for pilgrimage tourism in Puducherry and Karaikal, he said.
Rajavelu, now in Singapore to participate in various tourism related programmes, addressed tour operators there during the ‘Puducherry tourism road show’ in that country and pointed out that the union territory offered safety and security to tourists.
He also released a video on promotion features of the niche products of tourism here. He also said there was very good potential for investment by entrepreneurs from Singapore in tourism activities in Puducherry and this could be through Public Private Partnership mode to develop occeanarium, snow parks, star category hotels, theme parks and integrated resorts.
Airline connectivity between Singapore and Puducherry through Chennai and also at Tiruchirapalli was also of help. Adventure tourism, education, scuba diving, sea surfing and spiritualism are among areas which could make Puducherry emerge a preferred destination in south India, he said.
Officials of Puducherry Tourism department,the Indian High Commission in Singapore and Tourism offices were also present.
