Odisha Tourism is going to organise Konark Festival from December 1, 2014 to December 5, 2014 at open air auditorium against the backdrop of the famous Sun Temple.
The festival was organised for the first time in year 1989. The objective of the festival is to showcase various forms of Indian classical dances and promote Konark as well as Odisha as a tourist destination. Besides the dances, sand art exhibition will also be the part of the festival.
The winter breeze from the sea and the magic of various dance forms create an atmospere filled with rhythmic beats and melodious tunes.
The major attractions of current edition of Konark Festival are an Odissi group dance on Nabakalebar to be staged by students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya on Dec 1, 2014 followed by Kathak by Sovana Narayan and group.
On 2nd day, Guru Ghana Kanta Borbayan and group from Assam will perform the Sattriya dance and dancer of Guru Birabara Sahoo and group of Konark Natya Mandap will present Gotipua.
On 3rd day, Guru Sobha Naidu and troupe from Hyderabad will perform Kuchipudi and Odissi by Ranjana Gouhar and troupe from New Delhi.
On Dec 4th, Mahari dance will be presented by Rupashree Mohapatra and group followed by Bharatnatyam by Guru V P Dhanajyan and group from Chennai.
On Dec 5th, Bhutanese dancers will perform dance and final performance will be by Odissi dance by Guru Durga Charan Ranbir and group.
The festival has assumed a kind of distinctive significance and importance for the timely efforts it has made towards the revival, preservation and continuation of unique temple dance tradition of Odisha. The festive nights serve the essential purpose of highlighting an important facet of India’s composite culture and offer the audience a lavish feast for the eyes and ears. As a tribute to the majestic monument, eminent classical dancers of India get together every year during this dance festival to present live performance. The dance is performed on the Open Air Auditorium set amidst the casuarinas grave with the Sun Temple, a World Heritage Monument, at the back drop.
When the sun sets in the horizon and the stars appear in the sky, the open-air-auditorium reverberates with the beats of Raga and Tala to fill the air. The classical extravaganza a journey through eternal ecstasy. The stage for the New Millennium Fete is all set to glow in pristine glory of much admired Odissi, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kathak and Chhow Dance- a lavish feast for the eyes and ears.
The International Sand Art Festival from December 1st to 5th at Konark. The 4th edition of International Sand Art festival will be held at Konark’s Chandrabhaga beach.
National and international sand maestros are expected to participate in the competition. The creator of best sand art will get purse money of Rs 100,000. As many as 30 Indian and 10 foreign artists are expected to participate in the competition.
These ten overseas artists from Mexico, Spain, Singapore, France, Norway, Germany, Netherland & USA and remaining 20 artists are from different states of India will create sand arts. Famous sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik is taken as the brand ambassador of this event.

The Odisha Tourism has announced special packages for the upcoming Konark Festival, which will start from Dec 1, 2014. The price of the package range from Rs 880 per head to Rs 17625 per head depending on the number of days. Tourists and dance lovers can enjoy the festival and also visit nearby tourist spots in Puri, Konark and Chilika.
